Health properties of N-acetylglucosamine
NAG, or N-acetylglucosamine, has the ability to inhibit tyrosinase glycosylation. As a result, it reduces changes in skin pigmentation, brightens discolored skin patches, and makes the skin more elastic. NAG also stimulates cell renewal, which speeds up the healing of small wounds and can help reduce the appearance of scars. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, N-acetylglucosamine is also worth incorporating in the treatment of acne. At the same time, NAG may also reduce acne scarring.
NAG plays an important role in joint regeneration. It is present in the synovial fluid, where it reduces friction between joint cartilage. In the digestive tract, it is a component of its protective layer – the glycocalyx. Its presence in the body improves the maintenance of intestinal health.
