Properties of sunflower meal:
The product is in the form of fine, granular or loose particles with a dark brown color. Depending on the degree of de-oiling, it can have different fat content and therefore different energy value. The meal has a slightly sunflower-like, characteristic odor, which is accepted by animals.
This raw material contains about 30-40% vegetable protein and 15-25% crude fiber. It is low in starch, making it suitable for feeding animals prone to metabolic disorders. In addition, it provides essential amino acids, such as methionine and cysteine, and minerals, including phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.
Use in cattle nutrition:
Sunflower meal can be used as an ingredient in compound feeds for dairy and beef cattle. It is most often used in rations adapted to the protein requirements of the herd, as an alternative to soybean meal or rapeseed meal.
