Glycerin-water extracts
Extraction using a solution of water and glycerin is a modern, gentle method of obtaining active substances from plant materials, used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries. This process is based on the use of a mixture of water and vegetable glycerin as a solvent, resulting in an extract that retains a high content of valuable bioactive compounds – flavonoids, polyphenols, vitamins, and organic acids – while ensuring the safety and stability of the final product.
Glycerin, as a naturally derived ingredient, serves in this process both as a solvent and a preservative. Its presence allows for limiting the use of ethyl alcohol, making glycerin-water extracts particularly recommended for use in products intended for sensitive skin, children’s skin, and in natural and organic cosmetics. Raw materials obtained in this way are characterized by gentle action, delicate fragrance, and a stable chemical profile.
Extracts produced by this method retain the natural color and aroma of the source plant, which is important in creating formulations with a high degree of naturalness. Due to the presence of glycerin, they also exhibit moisturizing and protective properties, supporting the skin’s hydrolipidic barrier. In cosmetic formulations, they serve both as an active ingredient and as a carrier for plant substances, increasing the bioavailability of active compounds.
